Ace Your Next Interview with Confidence!
By Stephni Madapatha: Program Coordinator at Launchbox Acadia (Winter 2025)
No matter how many interviews we've faced, it's completely normal to still feel those pre-interview nerves. Stress, anxiety, and even feeling a bit lost during the preparation process are all part of the experience. But guess what? Those nerves are a good sign! They show that you care deeply about the opportunity and are genuinely excited about the role.
As you prepare for your co-op, new grad, or part-time job interviews, here are some key tips to help you shine:
Do Your Research
Before stepping into the interview, make sure you have a solid understanding of the company and the role you're applying for. Review the job description thoroughly and familiarize yourself with key points that could be beneficial during the conversation.
Master Your Body Language
Your non-verbal cues speak volumes. Maintain good posture, establish eye contact, and greet with a firm handshake. Remember, actions often speak louder than words.
Craft Your Answer to “Tell Me About Yourself”
Avoid simply reciting your resume. Instead, share interesting and genuine insights about yourself. Be conversational and give the interviewer a glimpse into who you are beyond your professional experience.
Leverage the STAR Method
When answering behavioural questions, use theSituation, Task, Action, Result (STAR) framework. This helps structure your responses with clarity and impact, demonstrating your problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Prepare Thoughtful Questions for the Interviewer
This is your opportunity to show interest and curiosity. Ask about the company culture, the qualities of successful team members, or what a typical day looks like. However, avoid questions about compensation - especially in co-op interview settings.
The ultimate secret to interview success?Be genuine, be passionate, and show your enthusiasm for the role and the company. Good luck!
